Introducing the new Macrogen GT Duo
In an age of austerity and energy reduction, organisations large and small are seeking to reduce costs and lower emissions. Often under the spotlight, power generation operators recognise that for them, energy reduction is not just an environmental matter – it is also a question of profitability. An incremental increase in efficiency can have an exponential effect on productivity.
A key area for such efficiency improvements on gas turbines is the air intake system, with a reduction in pressure drop whilst maintaining filtration level the core goal. The quickest way of reducing the pressure drop of an air intake system, and so lowering cost and improving output, would be to simply remove a filtration stage. But with each phase specifically designed to suit the exact environmental conditions of that particular application, no stages are included superfluously so their removal requires a fresh approach – Macrogen GT Duo.
By combining the water coalescing and pre-filtration functions into one, Macrogen GT Duo renders the separate coalescer stage redundant, thus allowing its removal. With the air intake one stage lighter, the pressure drop of the system will be dramatically reduced, maximising output and minimising cost. Usually, a reduction in pressure drop of 50 Pa will increase efficiency of the entire GT by around 0.1%. Furthermore, with fewer filters to buy, install, remove and dispose, significant reductions can be achieved to the cost of operating the entire system.
Since 2007, Macrogen GT Duo has been employed by gas turbine operators seeking the efficiency savings offered by an all-in-one filtration stage. Whilst this original design succeeded for coarse dust environments, there was also a need for a higher grade device, suited to fine dust applications. Furthermore, to meet the diverse requirements of our customers worldwide and allow simple integration with current systems, alternative configurations of Macrogen GT Duo were also called for. Because of this, the Macrogen GT Duo range has been completely overhauled with two depths in three frame types, to provide a full array of models for the gas turbine market.

With these different configurations, Macrogen GT Duo provides particle filtration and water coalescing in one stage for all types of environment, eliminating the need for further downstream prefiltration or separate coalescer stage. Furthermore, it does so without the need for retrofit of existing frameworks whether replacing existing panel-type or bag filters.
